Now that you know what it takes to become the next beauty queen and know how to prepare for the big moment. Next, you will need to impress the judges as well as viewers on your Q&A skills. Below are a few tips on how to score in this segment.

Be Prepared
Get ready to be thrown any type of questions from the judges. Serve this as a job interview. Research on topics that are hot at the moment. Keep abreast of any new developments in the news. Also, search typical beauty pageant questions online and work on them. These include humanitarian causes, your views on societal issues, what qualities you believe a role model should possess, how would you change the world if you were elected president, human rights and so on.

You need to sound confident, assured and convicted of your answer. Give detailed explanation to your answer. It’s not enough just to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Convince the judges of your answer. Practise and revise answering skills with friends and family members and let them point out to you any areas that need improvements.

Be careful of your intonations. Practise saying words that are difficult to pronounce. Work on the language if you must.

Listen Attentively
Getting to this round is already very nerve wrecking. No matter how nervous or excited you are that at time, make sure to listen carefully to the question. Failing to do so will result in answering the wrong question. Only by listening attentively that you understand what is required of you.

Pauses
Prevent from uttering ‘ummms’ and ‘uhhhs’. This will only show that you’re being indecisive and not confident on your own thoughts and answers. Use pauses before answering. By pausing, it shows that you are not rushing to answer the question and you give yourself ample time to digest the question.

Pause for three seconds before answering. When you answer, you should state that this is your believe and conviction. Start with “I believe” or “I feel strongly”. This shows you are sure and confident of your own conviction.  After you’re done, summarize your answers.

Posture & Eye Contact
An effective communication does not only rely solely on words. Body language may accentuate what you wish to bring forward. Stand tall and look confident when you answer. Give eye contact to the host, judge as well as the audience. It shows respect to all parties present and that you take them into account while answering. There’s no weightage on answers given when contestant look lost or down the floor when giving the answer.

Relax
Take a few deep breathes before your turn to calm your nerves. Take a few more when it’s your turn. Settle yourself in a comfortable position to receive the question. Treat it as any other job interview. The only difference is you wanted to score this question, big time.
